Reasons Why Renting a Vacation Home is Better for Families

This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.

I don’t know about you, but having a family with four kids makes it pretty hard to squeeze into a hotel room every time we take a trip. Even if we are just having a staycation in New Jersey (and haven’t packed a lot), it is still a tight squeeze. This is why I think renting a vacation home for families is a really convenient way to travel. Check out all of these perks of staying in a vacation home:

  • There are separate bedrooms

I know to some people this would not matter much, but to me, it is pretty convenient and important. This is a huge perk for a few different reasons. To start off, I have my own bedroom, just like at home. Your kids can also get separate bedrooms, as well. Another perk of having separate bedrooms is the fact that I do not have to share a bedtime with my kids. Think about it – if you are squeezing into one hotel room with your kids, you cannot stay up watching television because that would keep the kids up. If you get hungry, you have to do your best to make sure your kids stay asleep while calling room service, answering the door and eating all in the dark. Is this even possible to do?! If so, you might be super mom.

Pro tip: Occasionally kids will have a hard time adjusting to a new room at night, but if you bring some of their favorite night-time essentials, it can help them adjust faster. Make sure you also keep up with their bedtime routine.

  • There is a kitchen

This is one of my favorite reasons to rent a vacation home! If you have younger kids, you know why. It can be so hard to eat out with kids, especially when they are young. Most of the time it is just easier to head to the grocery store, grab your essentials and cook for the family instead of going out with sometimes cranky kids. On top of it being easier, it is also saving you some money and you will most likely choose healthier options. It is a win-win!

Pro tip: When you arrive, check out the kitchen to see what you are working with. You do not want to get ingredients for a dish that you are not able to cook because they do not have a large enough pot.

There is usually a laundry room

Vacationing with kids gets messy. If you have babies, you go through burp cloths and clothes non-stop. If you have a toddler, you will definitely end up with food, dirt and grime everywhere. If you have young children, I can guarantee you that you have never seen their clothes clean at the end of a fun day. Having a laundry room really just makes life easier – I love being able to keep up with my laundry while on vacation because if I wasn’t able to, I would have mounds of laundry to come home to and that is not what any mom wants (or needs). A lot of vacation homes will provide laundry detergent, but make sure you take note of this before heading to the store – you might have to pick some up for yourself!

Pro tip: Do one load of laundry each night. This way, you are not overwhelmed on your vacation, but your pile of clothes is not getting out of hand either!

  • There is usually some type of outdoor space

Another amazing perk of having a home instead of a hotel is that you will most likely have some type of outdoor space. Whether it is a front or backyard, pool area, or garden, you and your kids will have more to do and more space to move around in. If you have a driveway, this is great for young kids that love to run around, ride bikes and play basketball. If you have a pool, this is a great way to wear your kids out so you all can get a good night of sleep!

Pro tip: Before you book, ask what kind of outdoor space they have. If you receive pictures of your home, you can probably tell if it has a backyard, or driveway. A lot of the time they even include this information in the description, so you know what you are working with in advance.

  • There is more space

This is what it all comes down to – there is just more space compared to a hotel and that is a huge deal for a family. You have your own rooms, multiple bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen to make your own food in, and most importantly, your kids can run around and are not limited to under 500 or so square feet.
